The Farmers' Museum and Historic Village has lots to offer for School groups. We have a variety of tours and workshops, most of which can be tailored to a specific age group. We offer guided and self-guided tour options, as well as workshops in the Fall and Early Spring. We are also the permanent home of the Empire State Carousel, a carousel all about New York State, one of the only museums you can ride! The Children’s Food Lab brings food and nutrition education to schools throughout the NYC and Mid-Hudson region. The Children’s Food Lab (CFL) offers food arts and sciences discovery labs, where curious minds of all ages can connect to the transformative power of food — food that is integral to the health of their bodies, minds, communities, and environment. CFL labs are hands-on, multi-sensory with a STEAM-based approached. They incorporate science, technology, math, nutrition, social studies, ELA, and the arts whenever possible. Students learn the incredible stories behind ingredients they eat all the time, foods like corn, wheat, milk, eggs, herbs, oats, vegetables, spices, cacao, and on. Students explore how food is grown, processed, and prepared, as well as how their food choices affect the health of their bodies and environment. The context and backstory of each ingredient creates a deeper connection between students and their food – a connection that will last a lifetime and shape the course of a child’s health and well-being.

Seneca Park Zoo is your guide to connecting students with nature, wildlife, and the environment. With inquiry-based programs for all grades, you can find the right program for your students, your subject, and your curriculum needs. You can enhance a Zoo visit with an Animal Presentation or Expedition program or to bring the Zoo to you with a ZooMobile outreach program. All programs reflect Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards through explorations of animal behaviors, biological systems, species diversity, and inter-connectedness.

Rogue Bear InterACTIVE Adventures produces captivating, hands-on educational enrichment programs in which the KIDS are the STARS of the SHOW! In our History Mystery Adventure Quest, kids build knowledge, observation, and research skills as they hunt for a priceless historical artifact just like Indiana Jones or Carmen Sandiego! They follow mysterious trails, uncover hidden clues, solve baffling riddles, decode secret messages, and overcome challenging obstacles to recover a priceless artifact, identifying historical landmarks, employing deductive reasoning, and utilizing knowledge about history along the way! Everyone contributes and each child has a role, making everyone feel important and valued throughout the activity. In ComicCrafting 101 kids learn to create their own comics using simple storytelling and illustration techniques. They design characters, choose settings, and develop the plot - then bring their stories to life both visually and with words, turning simple lines and shapes into fantastic scenes and images! No previous story writing or illustration experience required.

I am the author of Charlie and Sophie's Great escape, a 32-page illustrated children's book. The story is about two curious puppies who run off by themselves, leaving their boy behind. Charlie and Sophie enjoy their freedom until they run into a scary situation. They manage to escape but realize they are lost. They work together, relying on their senses to find their way back home. The story's moral is that mistakes are part of life's journey, but when we learn from them, they become stepping stones to growth. I present an interactive storytelling session of my book, touching on themes of friendship and faith in our abilities, with time at the end for some Q&A. We also discuss how dogs use their senses to learn about their world and how our senses compare with those of dogs. I am open to doing a related activty as an add-on to the book reading.

Mylisa Larsen is the author of the novels Playing Through the Turnaround and Quagmire Tiarello Couldn’t Be Better and the picture books All of Those Babies, If I Were A Kangaroo, How To Put Your Parents To Bed and Ho Ho Homework. Her author visits are designed to look at some of the underlying assumptions that cause students to decide that they’re not writers and to give students practical and fun ways of building their skills as writers which they can use immediately. We explore techniques for finding stories and getting started, experiment with how different choices we make shape our work, and talk about techniques for revision and for when writing gets hard. We talk about what the job of an author looks like but also how the skills of creative problem-solving which make up the job of a writer apply to many other fields and endeavors. Kit's Interactive Theatre has 16 different high-energy shows that combine history, dance, music, improvisation and a great deal of humor where students and teachers become all the characters in the show. Students learn how their modern lives differ from those of their forebears as they explore how and why these critical events took shape. Programs are imaginative, educational and fun! They range from Ancient Egypt and Women's Rights to Mother Nature and Cinderella's Fairy Godmother.
